12-03-2023 The State of Kuwait’s participation in the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change

The representative of His Highness the Amir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect and preserve him, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Jaber Al-Sabah, headed the delegation of the State of Kuwait participating in the twenty-eighth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, held in Dubai.

The delegation also includes His Excellency the Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, the Acting Minister of Public Works, Dr. Jassim Mohammed Al-Ostad, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Sheikh Nimer Fahad Al-Malik Al-Sabah, the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Jamal Al-Ghunaim, the Consul of the State of Kuwait to the Emirate of Dubai, Ambassador Ali Al-Dhaidi, and the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Office Affairs. Plenipotentiary Minister of Foreign Affairs Nawaf Al-Ahmad.

The State of Kuwait is participating in the COP28 Summit with a pavilion that includes many representatives of agencies and institutions concerned with issues of environment, development, climate, and sustainability, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Public Works, the Environment Public Authority, and the Kuwait Fund for Development through visual presentations and events in the ward.

198 countries from around the world are also participating in this prominent international event to discuss progress in combating climate change and the risks it may cause, and to determine countries’ commitments towards carbon neutrality.

Representatives of the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, including engineers and specialists in the field of energy, presented the measures taken by the Ministry to reduce harmful emissions resulting from electricity and water production operations, as well as current and future renewable energy projects using various technologies, which will have a production capacity of approximately 4,500 megawatts. In implementation of the State of Kuwait’s commitment to make 15% of the electrical energy produced in the State of Kuwait from renewable energies by 2030. The Ministry’s future plan for 2040 was also presented regarding projects to increase the production capacity of electricity and water and expand the electrical and water network in the State of Kuwait to meet the increasing demand for electricity and water in line with Kuwait vision and major development projects.
